Tweet at GEICO: Stop attacking Muslim leaders during Ramadan

The mega-corporation GEICO just abruptly canceled an internal event inviting Arab-American Palestinian activist Linda Sarsour to speak with their Diversity, Inclusion and Equity team.

Then they publicly smeared her advocacy for marginalized communities as “hatred."

All during Ramadan.

By dropping their main Arab-American Heritage Month internal event, GEICO handed a win to the forces of anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Arab racism.

GEICO decided they were more comfortable publicly vilifying and dehumanizing a prominent advocate for Arab Americans, U.S. Muslims, Palestinians and other marginalized communities, than simply having a conversation.

They thought they could silence Muslim leaders from talking to their staff about fighting bigotry, racism and Islamophobia.

They were wrong about that.

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment to push back against anti-Arab and  Islamophobic hate.

Let GEICO know you demand they do the right thing: Rescind your statement. Apologize to your Muslim, Arab, & Palestinian employees and customers.

This is an especially important moment for allies to show up. Make it clear that one of the biggest companies in the United States can’t simply erase Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians from Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
