This past March, mere days before the Christchurch Mosque shootings, Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News show just went out and said the kind of openly hateful trash so many Fox News programs merely try to imply: U.S. Muslims can't be trusted simply because they're Muslim.
On her weekly Fox News program, Justice with Judge Jeanine, Pirro had this to say about Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who came to this country as a refugee from war and went on to make history as one of the first Muslim women to become a member of Congress:
"Think about it: Omar wears a hijab…is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?"
How bad were Pirro’s comments? Even Fox News condemned them, saying:
"We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar. They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly."
And yet: they’re still airing Justice With Judge Jeanine. (They took a brief reprieve to cool things off, but Pirro is now back on the air).
To keep Pirro’s show on Fox News at all is a moral calamity. For sponsors to pay Fox News to air it after the Christchurch Mosque shootings is simply unconscionable.
We know Fox News are hypocrites. We know they released that statement because they had to. We know we can’t expect any better from them.
But we also know that Fox News has advertisers who don’t want their brand to endorse this kind of rancid Islamophobia and bigotry.
Let’s tell Fox News and Jeanine Pirro’s advertisers: you can stop funding Pirro’s show, or you can tell us why you support TV programming that even far-right Fox News has to admit is unacceptable.
Below are Jeanine Pirro’s chief advertisers, to whom our letter is addressed:
UPDATE: Squarespace has confirmed that they are no longer advertising on Pirro's show.
