This is outrageous.
Ilhan Omar, one of the first ever U.S. Muslim congresswomen, hasn't even been sworn into office yet—but she's already being attacked by organizations with a history of promoting Islamophobia.1
Organizations including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) are trying to undermine Omar because she supports the constitutional rights of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement—a nonviolent resistance tactic that seeks to pressure the far-right Israeli government over its anti-Palestinian policies.
This is unacceptable. Sign and let Ilhan know you'll stand with her against these attacks.
Ilhan Omar is every Islamophobe's worst nightmare: a progressive Black Muslim refugee woman, who isn't afraid to speak truth to power. And after she won her election with an overwhelming mandate, they're scrambling for ways to undercut her.
Here's their justification: in a recent interview with Muslim Girl, Omar’s campaign stated that “Ilhan believes in and supports the BDS movement, and has fought to make sure people’s right to support it isn’t criminalized.”2
The ADL took to Twitter to call this "alarming." That's right—the ADL is alarmed that an incoming member of Congress would support people's First Amendment right to boycott without fear of being criminalized.
Here's what's actually alarming: organizations like the ADL using their platforms to attack a trailblazing Black Muslim woman in order to undermine advocacy for Palestinian human rights.
Sign here and let them know that this is unacceptable. Let them know you stand with Ilhan.
